Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I am fairly certain that life exists outside of earth. How and where we will find it or it will find us is something that I hesitate to speculate on. Most momentous discoveries seem to happen when no one is looking or by accident. Hopefully this will not be the case with extraterrestrial life.

As far a beacons go, We have enough radio transmissions passing around this planet that anyone who wants to could find us. Perhaps they are listening and have decided that earthlings are too violent and they don't want anything to do with us.

I enjoy participating in this project. Now that I have a new computer, my time to process has been cut in half so I look forward to sending in more results. However if I let SETI go to the display, it slows down quite a bit, so I have set the screen saver not to kick in for 1440 minutes. That way SETI continues to run without driving the graphics display.
