Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. I believe that there are other beings somewhere. The problem with discovering them could be the great distances, different forms of cummunication (yet unknown to man), or perhaps they exist in dimensions our science cannot grasp yet.

In case those "beings" exist in the physical levels if universe as we know it:
If we were to identify a "real" signal and interpret it, it would probably take ages for us to send a signal back. Unless we received instructions on how to contact "them" in another way (like in Contact, the movie, for instance) - but that is highly inprobable.

Benefits/dangers? I think we really can't tell, until we really begin to communicate with "them".

2. Transmitting a signal. Sure, why not? Our message should say something like "we just want to talk to you, meet you, learn from you" Our location should be somehow identified. We should probably also specify the means of communication, by listing means of communication we are able to intercept. What "language" should be used? I have no idea. :)

3. Why do I run SETI@home? If it increaces our chances of finding something and learning sometning, even by a minute fraction, it is worth it.
I think the idea behind this project is fenomenal. A big Thank You to all involved.
