Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home

Q.
Do you think extraterrestrial life exists? If so, when and how will humans discover it? What are

the possible benefits and dangers of such a discovery?

A.
I think that mathematically you cannot deny the probablilty of extraterrestrial life. I have no

idea how it will be discovered but I hope that this project can in some contribute to that

discovery. I imagine that when life is first discovered it will not be intelligent, however when

intelligent life is discovered the benefits could be astronomical in scope. Hopefully the dangers

are minimal.

Q.
Should humans transmit a beacon for others to find? If so, what information should we send?

A.
I can think of no reason why not. It's a fairly inexpensive way to attempt communication with

any life that exists out there. What should we send? I have no idea. I would think only

mathematical messages would be easily interpreted by another intelligent race.

Q.
Why do you run SETI@home? What are your views about the project? Any suggestions?

A.
I've always been excited about space exploration and extraterrestrial life. I think that this

project doesn't get nearly enough attention so every little thing I can do to help I will.
