I am from Palmerston North, New Zealand. I am a Infrastructure Development Engineer working in Information Technology Services at Massey University, New Zealand largest tertiary education institution. I have been in the IT industry now for more than 23 years.
In my spare time, I operate ( with my wife ) a non-profit ISP to help churches and other para-christian agencies, organisations and ministries by providing low cost web hosting and internet access services.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Why SETI ?
The universe is a BIG place. I'm not prepared to state that my God hasn't created life elsewhere but knowing what I do about all of the variables that need to be exactly right to provide an environment to support life on earth, statistically, I think the chances a slim.
On the other hand, he has been pretty creative here on earth so why not somewhere else :-)
With all the thousands of idle computers around the world, putting some of the CPU power to use on the SETI project seems like a useful activity to me. We may never find any ETs but we seem to be learning more about ourselves and our environment in the process.
