Personal background
I am currently writing up my PhD thesis in Chemistry and X-ray crystallography after three years of hard grafting experimental work.

Luckily for Seti I decided to reinstall the client so that whilst the hours and days of my life tick by and the number of words I write steadily increases Seti can expand the horizons of our known universe.

Unlucky for me I can't remember my old username and password from years ago when I first started using Seti. I do remember why I stopped using Seti though! It was all about very big signals showing up in my processing and then disappearing from my computer without even giving me a score.

Not to worry I can forgive and I assuming they were some sort of signal calibration?

Back to the here and now, I leave my little PC running Seti in real-time most of the day in the background although my Windows 2000 operating system doesn't want to work with the command line version of Seti nor does version 3.07 want to use both my processors. I guess that is why I allow Seti to use have real-time priority over one processor!

After my PhD is finished and I pass or fail I'm hoping to work for an academic institution studying X-ray Crystallography and synthetic chemistry. To date I have over 200 crystal structures under my belt and a few co-publications.

Thats it for me!

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Does extraterrestrial life exist?

I hope so I can't believe we are all there is if so we must be the biggest joke of the entire universe or is it universes (MmmmmmmmH I think a better word is called for?)!

If we do contact someone? Will they want to talk to us?

We've been sending so much junk into space and messing up are own planet we must be like the neighbours from hell?

I think its a bit too late to worry about if we should transmit a beacon we have since the first television broadcasts.

But should be send a signal that is based on universal constants and can't be confused with crap? How many people have TV transmitters and how many have TV sets, you do the math? Perhaps a passive system may need a little bit of a rethink!

The funniest thing though is that we may be sending a signal out in the Universe to make contact and whoever gets it may be no more advanced than us or even less and it goes right past them!

Other life doesn't mean more advanced!

Its amazing what rubbish you'll write instead of your thesis! :-)
