Personal background |
So, these days I find myself back in school at the University of Linköping, Sweden - just as i were a decade ago. This time I'm working on my M.Sc in Technical Physics and Electronics. (Last time I settled for a B.Sc)
Come to think about it, nothing much has changed over the years. Well... Although the world has changed and my peers have grewn up, I've managed to remain the same.
I still spend far too much time in front of my computer - only that I run Linux instead of my beloved old Amiga. I still cruise around the countryside looking for old ruins - but now I can drive a car there. I'm still adaptable and hopefully pretty liberal minded. And yeah, I'm still a sucker for all thing piratey and all things trekkie.
The only real difference is that I may be a little more of a rebel than in the olden days.
"I like the bed I'm sleeping in
just like me it's broken in.
It's not old - just older.
Like a favorite pair of torn blue jeans,
the skin I'm in is allright with me.
It's not old - just older"

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
Well ofcause we all seen Spieldbergs movie but really... I'm not sure if ET exists or not. Just that there is a lot of solar systems out there doesnt say that much until we know HOW IMPROBABLE life really is. The fact that life exists on earth at all could be a dazzling fluke. Yet, I'm optimistic.
If we find life on distant planets, we should immediately send a copy of the internet. (I'm sure that all ET really wants is terabytes of p0rn).
I run SETI@HOME on my Linux box as the task with lowest possible priority. In essence I donate processing power that would otherwise be unused. Perhaps I could have chosen to donate the power to cancer research or something like that. But SETI@HOME was interresting and easy to set up.
