Personal background
Hi, everybody!

My name is Ilmo Kotivuori and I live in Turku, Finland. I heard about this SETI project recently from a TV program. The idea is splendid:

(1) Using my computers extra capasitet for something.
(2) Searching for extraterrestial intelligence. Maybe easier than searching terrestial intelligence, I think. ;-)

Now I process units with two MacIntosh computers. One of these two is PowerBook G4, and when I take it with me to forests searching mushrooms (with or without intelligency), the other one (iMac) is processing SETI units.

I highly appreciate the idea and work of the SETI@home team.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Of course there exists life in many places in the universe. Hard to say, when and how we will find signs of it. Think about history and time when nobody knew anything about radio waves coming from the outer space. Then those waves did not exist. What are the communication methods that exists just now, but we dont know anyting about them?

I think, that in the future we will find something interesting, which will create a totally new branch to our history of sciences.

And now we can see so far to the space as we can see. Similarly we can see so close to the viruses, atoms etc, as we can. Perhaps we could find some kind of intelligent transmissions from quarks, too.

Seems that everything is possible, except world wide peace. ;-)

If we could understand what kind of communication could travel faster than light (except bad news), we shoud build receivers for that. So the life forms from the future could contact us, because moving faster than light means moving back in time.

Being a small part of gigantic supercomputer gives a little meaning for my life. This project is marvelous, but when there are similar projects for solving global human problems, I join them. This project is yet an interesting pioneer of this kind of supercomputers and I hope it will succeed in a way or another.
