Personal background
I am a Systems Administrator at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. I am 24 and have been a part of SETI@home for several years now, off and on. I enjoy working on web projects and other computer-related projects. Although programming is not one of my fortes, I still like to get involved in it from time to time, and the classes I take use it.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe that this Universe is far too vast to not have other intelligent life forms out there. I do not think we are very close to having any kind of formal contact with any ET species, but I am not doubtful of the many reports of "UFOs" and other experiences around the world. When will we discover ET life? Maybe we already have.

I think a beacon into space would be a fabulous idea. The problem would be to decide what to send. Do we send our history? Do we send greetings and summaries of Earth in all languages? Do we choose 4 or 5 major languages to send things in? Do we send Mathematical codes of some sort (like in Contact)? These questions are difficult to answer, but I think a simple greeting in all languages would best get an ET species' attention.

I run SETI@home to help out where I can. I think it is an important project, as finding funding for this type of research can often be difficult. I think if we keep up the work we all are doing, -something- will be found. After all, if we are alone, it "seems like an awful waste of space." (Contact, 1997).
