Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI because it is a painless and easy form of charity. I also run other distributed computing projects. I also believe 1) we are not alone and 2) we are probably barking up the wrong tree. I suspect we will not be allowed congress with others until we demonstrate that we can get along with ourselves without demanding monolithism in thought, theology and culture.

But there's no harm in trying.
