Personal background
I'm originally from Bangkok, Thailand and immigrated to California in 1970 at the age of 2 and 3 quarters. I work for SBC as a Systems Engineer supporting the Public Sector market in the Ventura, Los Angeles, and Orange County. I enjoy tinkering with mechanical or electrical devices. Occasional hiking, billiards, fishing, and darts are some of my favorite recreational hobbies.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
The universe is so awesome there's got to be some sustainable life out there. Our minds may develop further with telepathic abilities allowing us to see what is out there. Maybe our dreams are already a window to these worlds. If extraterrestial life has the ability to observe us with all our inconsistencies then we may be seen as too unstable for contact. We should strive to progress into better beings. Why would any life form want to hangout with people that can be harmful?

A beacon would be a bit narcissistic if we expect intelligent life to respond. What if the beacon is translated as a declaration of war? We should master reaching out through some form of observational endeavor such as space travel and/or powerful telescopes.

I run SET@home because I have computers and you need help. It takes very little effort to be involved and it's simple yet non-intrusive. Keeping the project simple is my best suggestion.
