Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I learned about Seti@Home a little over a year ago and joined.....
.
I think this is a worthwhile project and since I do not believe in the government funding everything for everyone, I was more than happy to allow the use of my PC's to help get the job done.....
.
I feel like there must be other life out there somewhere, though we are yet to find it in any form.
.
The potential benefits or dangers of contacting other life are really unknown to all of us.....it could easily range from the betterment of mankind to our extinction....there is no way to know for sure.....
.
One thing that has always irritated me about other SETI@HOME folks is that, almost without exception, they always talk about the other possible civilizations as being so superior or advanced than we are....or the old liberal chant that since humans are so evil we might get paid back somehow through slavery or whatever when we meet these other races...and the BS about how finding other life will somehow make religion absolete....
.
I think these notions are B.S. in their purest form !
.
I dismiss the idea that humans are automatically inferior or evil or whatever.....or that religon will die if and when other life is discovered elsewhere.
.
If there is life out there somewhere, and odds are that there must be, they may just as easily be the inferior ones or the evil ones, they may will have the same creator as we all do.
.
Another notion that seems so prominent is that any contact must automatically be with a peaceful race of beings...well...that too could go either way....
.
I think that Seti@Home is a worthwhile project while it is being primarily supported as it is via voluntary use of our home computers...
.
Hopefully when we meet these others life forms, all will go well and we won't end up on their dinner table or whatever nightmare we care to dream up...
.
As for now we can just keep listening...maybe the doom sayers will get their wish someday....I'm betting they are in for a big surprise.
