Personal background
I am a 48 year old retired police captain from the New York area. I enjoy boating, flying, motorcycling, golfing and, most importantly, my wonderful family. With five children ranging in age from 15 to my youngest, whos was born on, of all days, September 11, 2001, I keep quite busy. I have a cable connection and enjoying surfing the net daily.

Obviously I have an interest in space exploration, which is how I stumbled onto the SETI site. I have only been registered since March of 2001 but as of this date (April 5, 2001) I have completed 20 units.

Feel free to email me about anything.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. I think that the existence of extraterrestial life is almost a sure thing. Whether or not there is intelligent life is another thing altogether. I suspect that, given the enormity of the universe, it is possible. Although it is possible to someday make contact, we have yet to discover or invent a means of crossing the vastness of space. Although we seem to be confined to limitations of speed (vs. time & the speed of light), things going on today were unimaginable during my early lifetime. So who knows? As for benefits vs dangers. I can't imagine being anything short of enriched by contact. Any species with the sophistication to traverse space would certainly be advanced enough to have some better motive than to bring danger to us.

2. We should certainly transmit some kind of beacon carrying a message of friendship.
