Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
The building blocks for life are all over the universe, and as soon as a suitable habitat becomes available then life will populate it, however i think that most life will be microorganisms, but a lot of planets will have larger life forms. I think intellegent life will be very very rare as most habitats are going to be very fragile, just think of our own planet, if it had not been for the cretaceous wipe out then dinos would still be here, and we would not. does a suitable planet need to have a moon just like ours and a single sun, if so then the number of planets that could be life supporting are reduced by a huge number.

I dont think we will hear from ET until we can scan further out in the universe.
But who knows, what a day it will be if we do.
