Personal background |
I'm a 21 year old student of Internet Applications Development. I've always been interested in other more eclectic things, like ancient civilizations and space travel. I figured out one day that my real dream job just plain didn't exist; I wanted to be an extra terrestrial archaeologist!
Hopefully by being a part of this project I'll help make it possible for someone else to reach that dream, even if I don't. |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I really do think there is extra terrestrial life somewhere out there. It's just that the incredible vastness of space makes the chances of a 'chance meeting' pretty slim. I think if we keep looking and if they're looking, we'll find each other some day. As for the possibilities of danger or benefits... there's a possibility for anything to happen. The hard part is getting the opportunity to find out, which is well worth it.
Transmitting a beacon would be a neat idea. That way if they're looking for us, they'd find us easier. We should probably keep it simple. There's no telling what kind of language barrier there is, so we should probably start out with something mathematical to demonstrate intelligence. Simple calculations and prime numbers would be a good start. Then maybe put in a way they could get back to us. An interstellar phone number of sorts, if only just coordinates of where to send a signal.
The reason I run SETI@home? Well.. I think I covered that in my profile. I've always been fascinated by different cultures and outer space. To find a completely alien culture to learn about and share with would be a dream come true for me and many others. Aside from that... it'd be nice to know that we aren't alone. It's a big universe, and as it stands now, a lonely one. |
