Profile: Dan Jerry

Personal background
My wife Laurie and I live in a geodesic dome of our own construction, designed by Buckminster Fuller. We live in the forest, in Northeastern New York State, with a view of Lake Champlain and Vermont to the east.

After twenty years association with Apple Computer as an Authorized Dealer and Service Provider, I now make my living creating custom business software, in my "SOHO", on a Mac (of course). My preferred development package is FileMaker Pro, and I am a FileMaker Solutions Alliance member.

My Internet access is via "Pegasus" 2-way DirecPC. My DirecPC dish is located on a Rohn 25G tower, along with my DirecTV dish, and my Amateur Radio HF, VHF, and UHF antennae. My call-sign is KA2HMR.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do I think there is intelligent life "out there"? The odds are for it being so. If I can help SETI, great! My Mac sits here twiddling its thumbs (so to speak) most of the time, as I only type 30 words-per-minute; why not put the extra computing power to some useful purpose!

Several of my clients now follow my example, and run SETI software at night, while their systems are otherwise not being productive.

Are the odds that my Macintosh will help SETI find life elsewhere equal to, greater than, or less than the odds of winning the New York State Lottery? I don't know. There's a lot I don't know!
