Personal background
I am a 2nd year interface design student from Holland. I am 20 years old (or young, which ever you prefer), and besides the professional interest for computers in general and the internet in particular I am a huge race fan who watches almost every Formula 1 race and races go-karts himself.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do think extraterrestrial life exists in both intelligent and non-intelligent forms, but will we ever encounter them because of the huge distances? And if we encouter them will they be friendly or not? You don't know if you'll find a cure for cancer or aids with there help, or if they'll harvest our natural resources with our "help".

I think transmitting a beacon is rather useless, if we send a beacon and it is found the chance that they'll understand it is very small, and if they except a invitation to come the welcome commity will most likely be special forces and jet fighters because we don't know what's happening. A warm welcome.Seti@home is a nice project because somebody just might find an artificial transmission and it's cheaper to lend the calculation power then to buy it. I do have some suggestions about the information shown on the screensaver. Mostly like "time to completion" and "average computer time per data unit".
