Personal background
I teach High School Math and Science at a small school in Oklahoma. Indianola, Oklahoma to be more precise. I have been a SETI user for over three years now and enjoy the idea of my computer somehow being useful on a global scale. The fact of creating a community of computers to help dissect recorded information as to not miss anything is fantastic. I teach a number of subjects within the Math and Science realm but enjoy physiology the most. My second choice would probably be geometry. I am starting my 9th year as a professional educator and just finished a Masters Degree in Secondary Education from East Central University here in the great state of Oklahoma. And NO we don't have that many Indians here!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I am inclined to believe that life has a will and a means. It starts with a greater being and subject to time, if there is such a thing as time. Will we discover E.T. or has it already discovered us? I believe that to deny ourselves the opportunity of attempting to discover something of this magnitude would be a huge mistake. Since man first began looking at the stars we have had a notion of other beings doing the same thing. "When" seems to be the problem. Our technology as of today could still be so inferior that we are just not that interesting, or that if we send out a beacon of somekind, our messages would not be received for thousands of mellinia to come. I believe it to be in our best interest to just listen and see what happens for now. This is the main reason I run SETI@home.
