Personal background
Just one unit a day for now, on my laptop.

To the Late Carl Sagan for starting a personal fascination with the Cosmos that has never gone away. Thank-you.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I don't feel too optimistic about the chances of finding ETI.
The universe is probably teeming with simple organisms, but there are 2 reasons why I think intelligence is hard to find. These apply to earth too... Are our petty territorial squabbles anything like in perspective to these?

1) Natural causes (disease, planetary impacts, gamma bursts, solar fluctuations, volcanism, climate change, etc)will reset intelligence back to 'bacteria level'on any suitable planet on a cosmologically regular basis, before intelligence reaches a level where it is capable of surviving such catastrophic events.

2) As soon as an intelligent life reaches the level where mutually assured destruction between combatants is technologically possible, its only a matter of time before it happens...

There are probably similar things to us out there, but they are rare, and a long way away....
