Profile: LodeRunner

Personal background
California kid, student at Sacramento State University. Running a PIII (Coppermine) 800 o/c'd to 936, a Celeron II 533 o/c'd to 666, and a Celeron-A 366. Sometimes, I get a Celeron 333-A running but it's got a bad power supply. Borrow (read: hijack) my parent's and sister's comps every once in a while to help out. I don't know if there's something out there, that's why I help look. I'm a Christian and I believe in 6-day creationism, and I'm a Calvinist. I believe that if God created other life in the universe that it is likely He will let us encounter it, or it encouter us at a later date. I like to play games on my computers, but when I'm not, I let seti@home have it all.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Well, I consider it a possibility that there is other life out there. We MIGHT find it by using radio telescopes, so I help look through the data. If we discover it (or it discovers us) things will change somewhat. We'll have to get used to the idea that there's other intelligence out there. As to transmitting a beacon, well it should be exactly that: a beacon. A simple, easily discernable, non-natural repititious signal, like a boat's emergency transponder. Nothing fancy, no encoded message, just a beacon. Of course, if there is other life out there, and it's hostile towards others, we could end up in a world of hurt, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. I run seti@home because I believe that given our current technology, any discovery is likely to be made using radio astronomy and SETI needs all the help it can get to process the billions of pieces of information it collects.
