Personal background
Hi!
I'm David from the land of St. David - that's Wales, UK.
I have lived here all my life except from a few years in both London and Rome.
I am interested in life - both here and elsewhere?
I find the whole notion of life and consciousness amazing and I can't accept that it all happened by accident.
As you may gather, I am a religious/spiritual person.
I enjoy Science Fiction, both movies and books.
I really like reading generally.
I am hopelessly in love with steam locomotives and I have more than a passing interest in model railways.
I don't watch a lot of TV, mainly Science Fiction movies/programs and a little sport, mainly soccer.
I should get more exercise!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do I think ET exists? That's the question isn't it? I would like to think there was life out there - even intelligent life. But how would we get together/communicate even? A great challenge!
I believe in God and I often think of God as the source of life. It is hard to imagine the vastness of the galaxy (not to mention the universe) and not see the Creator filling it with life. I love to think that God's infinite imagination has produced life in infinite variations throughout the universe.
Despite all to the contrary as evidenced in our world, we need to communicate somehow our capacity for love. Any intelligent being capable of knowing that we are here will be able to tell so much about the wonder of humanity through this knowledge.
I heard about SETI@Home a couple of weeks ago from a friend and looked up the site a few days ago. I am happy to run the program and help with the analysis of signals, even though I don't fully understand the technicalities of it all. It's about being a part of this and being able to do something which might make a small difference. Besides which I have a good PC which spends most of its time word processing, so there is ample capacity for analysing work units. I wish you guys who run this project good luck and keep up the good work! A thanks for inviting us in.
