Personal background
Hi, I live in Ontario, Canada. I am a system administrator for a paper company. I joined the SETI team to try to give something to a worthwhile pursuit. I was born in 1969 here in Ontario, and my pursuit now is to put together the fastest machine I can build to get processing times down, I will let you know how it goes.

Hobbies

I like to bicycle, motorcycle, curl, baseball (play not watch) golf and model trains as well as reading. (when I have time between mental upgrades, family and work)

I want an alpha chip, but I will keep dreaming, however maybe a nice distributed machine might be in my future. (Probably linux)

Thanks for taking the time to read this, have a nice day.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Does others exist, we would be quite full of ourselves to think we are the only people in the universe. Are other civilizations advanced, we don't know. If any do exist do we rate them even coming to speak to us. (We can't even get along on our own planet, why would others want to come here) We have had about 30 light years of radio and tv, and if I were to pick that up, I would probably have turned the channel off due to the fact I could not understand the language anyway. Would I be curious, maybe. But if I could travel in space, then my first communication would be to others who could help me, not the other way around. In a few thousand years when more civilizations can travel beyond the star, going to meet the neighbours will be a normal thing to do, but for now, knowledge and exploration would be at the top of the list, not a planet who could blow itself up at anytime...

Beacon, sure, something wideband and simple, just to let people know we are here. Since language would never be understood, I would send classical music. It is common to any species that could hear and it is understood for its complexity and beauty. Communication can come later...
