Profile: Jimmer

Personal background
Originally a Hoosier, I'm now a happy Oregonian. I love to snowboard, garden, run, listen to music, backpack and watch the night sky! I also love Hawaii. I'm an environmental lawyer, working on a thesis for an advanced degree. As we all know, while life may exist elsewhere, Earth is the best thing we've got going, so we should cherish her.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Extraterrestrial life must exist. I do believe. Perhaps humans will be discovered. Benefits of discovery -- humility and opportunity. The downside: Perhaps other beings are as aggressive as we are.

Yes. Humans should transmit a beacon! But no MTV, CNN, or Survivor TV -- they'll think we're too primitive for contact.

I run SETI@home because I hope we will make contact in my lifetime and because even if we don't, I enjoy the imagination and hope it provokes in me.

The SETI project is wonderful. I'm happy so many people have joined. I hope even more will join. It shows that even in diversity, we can, as humans, have a common goal.
