Personal background
I am 46 and live in Rainham, Kent, England. My occupation is as a signalman at the U.K.'s busiest railway station which involves a lot of shift work so I don't get much time for hobbies.

What I do enjoy is sittng at home with my wife and family watching a movie on the TV or on DVD. Obviously I also enjoy using my PC (when I can get on it!).

I have been running Seti@home for just over 9 years and hope that I will find something out there for the world to go mad about!

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Seti is an interesting project that anyone with a PC and a modem can join and enjoy. It brings home to the world at large the true possibility of extraterrestrial life existing and a small amount of satisfaction that you are contributing to a worthwhile search.

When we will discover life outside our universe I cannot really say, but it must be within the next 50 years or so as the work that has already been done covers a large amount of background information. It must be remembered that when life is found there will be communication problems and we must not let the governments of the world treat this new life as a threat (unless of course there is proof of such a threat) and go to war against them as the Spanish did in South America and the British did in India and many other places in the world.

There will be few beneifits at first due to communication but once these problems are sorted out there will obviously be assitance on space travel and how to survive long periods in space. The start of communications will originate from the radio pollution that we are pumping out into the Universe but the signal sent by us should be based on what they already know from radio and TV transmissions from the past.

Seti is striving for a better understanding of what is or is not out there and it needs our support so that it can continue to do so thus making it a worthwhile project do on your home PC.

Thanks
