Personal background
Hi,

I'm from Montreal, have worked in IT and Telecom for 30 years now (Yep back to the time of punch cards!). I am a fan of Linux, and also have to use Windows as well (don't most of us).

My interests are computers, Security, Hockey (Hey, I'm from Montreal) and
good books.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do I think there are ETs? It would be absolutely STUNNING if they where none!
There are too many stars for us to be the only ones out here! That doesn't
necessarily indicate that I believe in UFOs, precisely because there are so
many stars to visit.

Benefits and dangers of discovering them? We may finally stop worrying
and fighting about stupid little insignificant things and concentrate on
something else! Should be a humbling event!

Should we transmit a beacon? Well we have of sorts with some satellites,
Yes we could send out a laser or radio signal, the odds are that we will
find one before we are found, but how can we justify looking for one without
sending one?

Why do I run Seti? I control a bunch of servers with extra CPU cycles,
it would be a shame to waste them. The project is non profit and shared by
a whole bunch of us. Why not!
