Personal background
I am 52 years old and was born in Hamilton, Ontario - that's in Canada. I've worked as a theater manager, video programmer, adult video store sales rep, computer lab helper (helping others learning about the beasts)and more recently as a cashier in Ontario Place. OP is owned by the government and although it is chaotic at times it is the most enjoyable job I have ever had. Without a doubt the worse job I ever had was as dispatcher at a taxi company. If you have ever worked in such a place you will know what I mean. I like to read - a lot - Diane Duane, Orson Scott Card, Stephen King, and almost anything "Trek". I am a bit of a loner NO MORE!! I got married last Hallowe'en to the most beautiful girl in the world. If you saw this profile before you know I am into Sailormoon but sadly I no longer have my cat sensei Luna. I am really into anime and I use "Lain" as my handle because of that. I am also a Big "Buffy" fan and I also watch "Angel". Fav. character "Willow". I do tend towards "wicca" err ...vampirism so I guess that makes sense. I also like going to science fiction conventions and collecting autographs.... sorry I don't have a small photo ...oh wait I do have one. Taken last month.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Of course ET exists. I think they are already discovered. I think that when the existance of ET or Life is confirmed society in general will probably look outward a lot more. Some of our mundane concerns will not seem quite so important. Of course this may be percieved as bad for business. I think contact effect really depends on us. We could be overwhelmed with new technology but then a lot of us are already feeling that. I hope that tech is not what we get out of contact. Just knowing we are not alone should change us plenty. As to using a beacon I wonder if we are not already doing that with our dependance on radio and tv. I sometimes think that if anyone monitors television it must be very confusing and mostly boring. So maybe we should have an official beacon of some sort but I don't know what to transmit (maybe eighties rock videos). I run this thing mostly cuz I like to. I don't really care about the statistics. In the new year I am looking into another computer (faster) or maybe I will just build it myself.....water cooling .... hmmm. Better yet marry someone with a really fast laptop that is just sitting in the corner due to the fact she has a MAC.
