In addition to running SETI@home on my regular PCs (using Windows 2000), I have it running on a 5 node Linux cluster.
Each node on the cluster is an 800 Mhz Duron with 256 MB of RAM. Normally this cluster is used for rendering (POV) and other experimentation under a Scyld Computing Beowulf setup. However, for SETI I have them each running a full copy of Mandrake 8.1 (each is independent).
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
It would be nice if SETI@home supported Beowulf clusters (in the true sense of a cluster). I'm sure that I'd be able to process many more work units that way. Unfortunately, since the code is not open (for obvious security reasons) I can't attempt to make modifications which would support the true power of Beowulf.
