Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I feel that it is very probably that extraterrestrial life does exist somewhere beyond our present reach. I think that if mankind can overcome the hurdles of simply living to as one race "The Human Race" and start devoting time and efforts towards exploration of the biggest unknowns of space that then and only then will we be able to stretch out our arms to the farthest reaches of space and it is then that we will discover other life forms that now remain far from our reach. If we are able to finally live with each other in peace maybe then more advanced life forms may visit us. The question of should we transmit a beacon for others to find is a rather complex question with many unknows like what kind of Extraterrestrial life form will we reach will they be friendly or Evil? will they be able to recognize our signal and translate it? What do we do when another life form responds? those are only a couple of thousands we should ask ourselves before taking that step as we would certainly want to be prepared for any and all possiblities. I run SETI because I feel it is an excellent way the citizens of earth can lend a hand to the sience world and I feel it is best that we look for those looking for us before we go looking for something we may not be prepared to meet. I think the SETI project is an excellent Idea and a great way to get many ppl involved in the "Great Search" As well as the best solution to computing all the calculations that need to be done that no computer built today could ever possibly accomplish in this life time.
