Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
There has to be other life out there. We are too tiny a segment of space to be special. As our knowledge has grown the possibility of life like we know it has also grown (gleamed from reports we are finding planets with a very strong possibility of having a habitats which might support life). Even Mars, which had been written off as a dead planet now looks like a candidate to have tiny, living organisms within it.
Should we look for them? Yes, as if two parties look for each other the chances of finding each other increases. Humans have developed to this stage because we dared to explore and in the process our understanding has also increased. We should not stop now but go to the next stage and explore our solar system. In perhaps another one hundred years we should be visiting our nearest stars.
