Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
Yes, E.T. exists. It'll take another 50 years, and we'll find it just the way we're expecting to find it. Benefits are enormous, dangers are enormous. Worth the risk? Yes.
We already have transmitted a beacon (of sorts) for others to find. What we've sent might make us look a little primitive, I'm afraid.
I run SETI@home to give our computers something to do. I love to see fast computers do 2 or 3 workunits in an 8-hour stretch at work, but don't mind that slower home computers take quite a bit longer to finish one. That's okay, still helping the project. Wish there was a command-line version for Mac 9x, but don't really expect to see one. That's okay, too.
