Personal background
I'm living in The Netherlands and - how appropriate! - working for @Home Benelux (http://www.home.nl). Yes, that is the Dutch Broadband Cable ISP, which was founded early 1999 as a Joint Venture of the late @Home Corp.

Of course I'm running SETI@home at home, on all of my computers (that is Win98, SuSE Linux and Mac Powerbook G3). But also at the office some computers are number-crunching 24/7.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home

Does extraterrestial life exist? Sure, why not? But in what form we can not possibly know - yet. I don't think chances are big to find any signals from an evident SETI source by doing the analysis we are currently doing (I mean by running SETI@home). However, from a pure scientific viewpoint, finding no result is also interesting. Or maybe finding something entirely different, a new type of pulsar maybe?

Should humans transmit a beacon for others to find
Well, dunno, but this (http://www.setileague.org/articles/meat.htm) scares the hell out of me ;-)
