Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
The screensaver although attractive, was a voracious consumer of clock cycles, so I dispatched with it and switched to the command line version. Currently I run Seti as a service on a dual Athlon pc.

I run Seti because it is worthwhile. I believe that discovering other life is a matter of time. We are still discovering new forms of life here on earth, and probably will do for some time to come.

We should transmit our own signal, because when the time comes, they will know we are aware of external influences like extraterrestrial life. They will be able to examine our signal and determine many things about us - most importantly, our expected reaction when confronted.

Lastly it is that reaction, which I most hope is a good one, that will say wether we are an intelligent and peaceful race, or the bunch of violent morons that I hope we are not if we are to live in harmony in this universe.
