Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Does extraterrestrial life exist?

Almost certainly, given the number of systems out there. Will we discover it and when? Maybe...it appears avery long shot though and a lot depends on how long our civilisation can last before we blow each other to Kingdom Come.

Should we transmit a beacon ? I thought we were already, given the volume of radio transmissions leaking out from Earth for decades now.

And why do I run Seti@home? I sduppose I'd rather have my 5 PCs doing something with their spare cycles rather than doing nothing. And there is something nice about climbing up the NZ chart. I use the command line interface as the screensaver is just too slow...I do notice that Seti does use up rather a lot of my 2GB download ADSL allocation per month so it is not cost-free for me!
