Personal background
I'm a 37 year old engineer from New Jersey. I have been interested in the SETI project since reading Carl Sagan's work.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Statistically, it is impossible for life NOT to have evolved on other worlds.

I believe that we will discover evidence of life by doing exactly what the SETI project is doing, as evidence of other worlds cannot travel faster than the speed of EM waves (barring some sort of as yet undiscovered dimensional travel).

If evidence of other beings with similiar or greater level of intellegence than ourselves were discovered, I believe this would be one of the most unifying events in human history.

We have been transmitting a beacon since the inception of radio. While we don't necessarily want an opinion of our society to be based soley on the content of the broadcasts, there is no turning back at this point.

I run SETI@home because i find the project interesting and think it would be pretty cool if concrete evidence of extraterrestrial life was found on my PC.
