Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I think it was Carl Sagan who said (in regards to Extra Terrestial Life) that there really are only two possibilities. Either we are completely alone in the universe, or that there are other intelligent life forms out there. EITHER possibility is a mind-boggling concept.
I tend to believe that we are NOT alone. I don't think we'll discover our neighbors, however, until we conquer the ability to communicate and travel at faster-than-light speeds. The universe is too vast for anyone to discover someone else with the current state of technology.
Why do I run SETI@Home, then? It's like playing the Lotto. The odds are you'll NEVER hit the jackpot, but you never know...
