Profile: Chesley Reyburn

Personal background
56 year old software engineer.
As a youth I read science fiction, A LOT, and wanted to go to the stars.
When I realized that it would probably not happen in my lifetime I was really bummed.
Then when I heard about SETI I thought that at least
I could help figure out if there was a reason to try
to go to the stars.
A reason other than simply to go because we can.
Which, in my opinion, is a good enough reason.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I really don't know if there are any other sentient beings in the universe.
I _hope_ that there are, and that they are not as violent as we are.
And that, maybe, they could help us do two things: One, travel to the stars
and two, stop killing each other.
