Personal background
Ill start of by telling you my name is Nicholas and Im 27yrs old

Im from Lichfield in Staffordshire. Lichfield is a well known Cathedral City in the Heart of the United Kingdom. The father of the modern dictionary , Dr Johnson once stated "Lichfield is the best Drinking hole in the whole if britain" and "If one is bored with Lichfield , One is Bored of life".
Well The first is certainly true, I dont know how they managed to fit so many pubs in such a small town.

Since an early age I have been interested in science and technology , so its no surprise that I wound up as a Web Developer, I can program in lots of different languages and my favorite operating system is Linux :-)

I write music and oneday would like to be a top selling artist (one can but dream!) you are welcome to listen if you like http://www.mp3.com/polyp ...

I like reading, my favorite author at the moment is Robert J Sawyer. If you are interested in SETI then the book, Factoring Humanity will probably be right up your street its all about making contact with extraterrestrials.

Im also single, just can't find any clever chicks in Lichfield, maybe one day I will meet a Supremely Intelligent Chick from Alpha Centauri, until then Ill just keep listening...
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
So far as I am concerned , anyone who beleives that we are the only example of extraterrestrial life is either heavily religous or just plain mad!

To even entertain the thought that in the seemingly infinite vastness of space the earth is the only planet that harbors life is ridiculous. The very fact that we are here is proof enough that life must exist elsewhere.

The real question is not "does life exist elsewhere", but "Where is it, and how do we find it ..." I beleive that one day we will find undisputable evidence of life outside of the earth. And I think that we will discover that it is a lot closer to home than we realise. Look at the discoveries we are continually finding on Mars, Look at the things we find in seemingly hostile environments on earth Only the other week , NASA discovered bacteria living in the outer atmosphere of earth.

Discovering life outside the earth is a little like schroedingers cat. Once you discover its there suddenly you find it everywhere. Until then life is both abundant and non-existant at the same time it only takes one person to open the box to break the uncertainty.

We may consider sending out a beacon this is a very controversial idea.We should try to send a message that can only be understood by a non hostile race. Can we be 100% sure that whoever discovers the message is not hostile ? No-one can answer that question but one things for sure making contact with another intelligent life form will change the face of humanity forever. The real question is, are we ready for this kind of change ?

I think that the number of people actively running SETI is an indication of the readiness of the human race to accept the idea of an extra terrestrial intelligence and that is one step closer to finding out the truth....
