Personal background
9I am just a regular family guy living in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England,I have a wonderful wife Bernadette and kids Paul & Stephanie ( Twins).
I am sometimes prone to wander out into the garden on a clear dark night and gaze in awe at the sky.Especially after a hard day and few beers. I’ve also been Known to stare in wonder at Venus in the early morning. Especially after a vindaloo and a few beers the night before.

Just like countless others, a computer became part of our home because the kids were starting school, and we thought we had better get one for the educational benefits it would provide. However I have become a Computer and internet addict, but I keep taking the tablets. Bernadette is now a long suffering but very tolerant computer widow.

We started with an iMac 233 and still have it as the main computer. The perfect computer for “ Idi..ts..../ Mummies and Daddies” See http://homepage.mac.com/deadtroll2/deadtroll.com/ “internet help desk” by Wes Borg. I have ventured to the dark side however and built a couple of those PC thingies but will always return to the Mac. Just wish We could afford a G4
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Extrapolating from Newtons first law If there is ET out there, ES (Extraterrestrial Stupidity) has to be there also. Or is that us?
The universe is a dangerous and cataclysmic place to live. There is no guarantee of continued existence, ask the dinosaurs. So we may be the only current sentient life in the universe. God forbid.
The longer Seti searchers fail to find ET, it just might make us realise we have to look after our world and learn how to live together. We may be unique. Also a stellar event may wipe us out so there is a need to move off planet in an effort to preserve mankind’s existence.
So extrapolating from Newtons first law, if Extraterrestrial Stupidity continues to exist, Extraterrestrial Intelligence has to be out there.
The bottom line is not if we find ET or not. It is that we do the science and look for ET. And in doing so understand why it is important to look, and so learn about ourselves and the universe. .
