Personal background
I grew up in Connecticut but have lived in San Diego, CA since graduating college 11 years ago. I am married to a wonderful woman, Martha and we have a three year old son, named Ben.

I am Director of Technical Services for a 20 person software company that builds document imaging systems. Being in the software development industry, I am as curious about the software created and used by SETI and SETI@HOME as I am in the "search" itself.

Right now my life pretty much revolves around work and family.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Assuming that the basic "facts" that are commonly accepted about the nature of our galaxy and the universe are in fact accurate, then I assume there is a 100% chance that life exists elsewhere too. However, given our CURRENT technology and the vastness of the realm to be searched, it seems like the odds of making contact is nearly 0%.

Of course, if we assume that SETI technology will follow Moore's law (that computing power doubles every 18 months), then it will take about 30 years for SETI to obtain tools/technologies that are a million times more powerful than today.

Although it will require patience, I am hopeful that some sort of meaningful "contact" will be made in my lifetime.
