Profile: The Jedi Alliance - Pantheon

Personal background
Hey

I am from a small country waaay up north called Denmark. I work as a GSM/mobile technician in a Swedish company.

I run SETI@home in continouos mode on my 2 pc's at home, since they won't permit it at work due to security reasons.

I enjoy playing games on my computer, GTA3 and Neocron (at the moment). Watching a few episodes of StarTrek, Farscape and StarGate would also rank as one of my favorite things. And to qoute Cougar, "And yes, a person can be loyal to both SW and ST without being schizophrenic".

Last of all, I hope I'll be able to benefit with my online time here on SETI@home.

Cheers
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Well, I firmly believe that somewhere in this vast universe of ours there has to exist other intelligent life. With all the billions of galaxies and billions of stars within them and the billions of years for life to emerge, suggesting that we're the only results seems faintly ridiculous.

On the other hand, the idea of an alien civilization would be pretty fantastic. So either way it turns out, whether there's other intelligent life out there, or Earth is the sole seat of consciousness in the entire universe, it would be an incredible prospect.

Taking an optimistic stance, and assuming that there is intelligent life elsewhere...what are the chances of them being positioned close enough for us to forge a relationgship and communicate information effectively? I suppose those are questions everyone who donates the use of their CPUs for this project ponders.

My only fear is that when a fruitful discovery occurs the regime in power will conceal it from the public. After all, information is power to the oppressed, and the ignorance of the oppressed is power to the leaders. Looking around at the flawed social and political systems where oligarchies and autocracies prevail, one has to wonder if maybe some of our search should be aimed at our own planet, where intelligent life seems to be scarce. Should extraterrestrial life be found, one can only hope that they are not like humans.
