Personal background
I am just a 16-year-old kid from the boondocks of America. That is, rural
Minnesota. I am currently studying at the local Corn School. That's what we
call it. It's 23 miles away in the middle of a cornfield. Sounds neat, huh?
In my free time I am usually at the computer doing something or other. Either
browsing the net or trying to get a network to work. In school I participate
in Knowledge Bowl (Academic Challenge competition), drama, and speech. The
only other thing I'd add is I have an insatiable curiosity. I am especially
interested in science and math. I find that stuff so interesting.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
SETI@Home is one of the best projects EVER! I definitely think there is life
out there. Statistically there has to be. I think we should do everything in
our power to contact them; including signals, beacons, and anything else we can
think up. It is a major risk though. It's always been the logical assumption
that an advanced civilization will be calm and peaceful, but that may not be
true. We consider ourselves "advanced" and we are nowhere near being able to
interact peacefully with others. We can't even handle our own planet. I do
think it will be awhile until an extraterrestrial life form is discovered, so
we have some time to improve. Personally, I run SETI@Home because someday we
will find something, and I want to help.
