Personal background
Born and living in Rimouski, Quebec, Canada, I'm now retired, having been in computer IT for Quebec-Telephone (now Telus Quebec) since 1966.
I have got microcomputers from the time of 8080, Z80, 68000 processors...
I also have a long time involvment since 1968 in another hobby: Radio Controlled airplanes
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Yes I do think life exists elsewhere. I am personally convinced Vatican and governments could have some proofs of third type contacts but do not want to inform everybody because of economics, beleevings that could be deeply disturbed.
2. Since the actual time frame is so small in the life of the Universe, and because of delays in light speed communication, it is not that important that we transmit messages.
3. Always interested in Sciences in general, I am strongly impressed by the SETI project. The idea of using that number of microcomputers in a single computation project is very interesting. Because of my computing background, I encourage the project. The fact that we can orientate Space Program by detecting hot RF activity in a not too far area of Universe would be a real luck. What government will actually send somebody in these spots? What technological improvments will it take to be able to travel at enough speed so a human being could go and return in his own contemporary life? I don't think it will be in my life to see it...
Long life to SETI@HOME... Universe is soooooooo huge!
