Personal background
avid firearms enthusiast, hunter, FPS gamer (beta tester for America's Army) Work in the IT and telecom field. Have motorcycle but enjoy bicycle riding with the better half frequently. I like finding ways to improve the performance of things For example: making computers run faster, making the brakes on my bicycle work better, getting better mileage from my vehicle etc... If something works, I like to try to make it work better.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1) To see if I can be the 'lucky' one to find something spectacular
2) In the overall analysis I think it will be a waste of time due to the astronomical volume of space to be examined and the the fact that ET transmitter may not even use radio waves and we may have already missed his 'message'. We assume that because we as humans use radio waves to transmit across distance that ET does too... maybe he uses light or something unknown to us as a form of transmission.
3) Better database servers with ample comm ports and less downtime retrieving wu's... faster approval of the credits... I can crunch and return faster than I get credit for them.
