Personal background
I am 35 years old and live in the Branson, Mo ( The Country Music Show Capital of the World). I am a Restaurant Manager by trade, but Computer Science has always been my passion. For College I attended the Kemper Military Academy, in Booneville Mo. I have been single for most of my life, and have 1 cat, three dogs and a bird. I first learned about the Seti@Home project back in January, and joined the Planetary Society in Feburary.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
For starters, let me say that my friends and family think I am crazy/stupid for participating in SETI. I guess I must be for believing in something that has yet to be proven. But, I have faith that there are intelligent beings out there in the cosmos and do believe there are other forms of life somewhere out in the vast universe. Given the number of galaxies in the universe, the number of solar systems in each galaxy, the number of planets found in the solar systems, there must be at least one other planet capable of forming life as we know it. "If not, what a waste of space." The questions are, are they as advanced as us (or more advanced!?), how long will it take to find them, will (or have) they found us first and what form of life are they? I think the answers to the first question are yes/yes/ and some are and some are not. As to the second question, I do not believe we, as the Human Race, will make contact with significantly more advanced races out in the universe until we grow up a bit and put out pettyness and violence behind us. On question number 3, I think one would have to be willingly blind or blissfully ignorant to ignore the evidence that we are being visited. On the fourth question, I belive that out of all the possibilities shown in books and movies in the last century, we will probably see one of two possibilities: (1) they will be bi-peddal, like us or (2) they will be nothing we have ever thought of before. Although, I can't imagine anything we haven't thought of before. They could be anything from slugs, to pure energy. Given time, I believe that the latter is the form the Human race will eventually evolve into.
