To those few who are reading this let me say a little about me... before you leave to surf onto more interesting things...
I'm a physics teacher in the UK. 36 (at least I was when I wrote this - who knows how old I am now) and have been running SETI@Home since 1999, along with several other BOINC apps.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI to find some aliens... I use the ideas in my lessons (part of the science curriculum now deals with life in the universe and seti is mentioned) and try to encourage the kiddies to download the program.
I also think it'd be kinda cool to be the one who found the signal... it might get me on TV anyway!! LOL!
As for what signal we should send out. Hi works for me... but the little/big green/grey men/insects/blobs might not get that, so something universal like mathematical constructs or atomic structures. That said there are plenty of natives on this planet that don't get them. We can but try ;oP
