Personal background |
I'm 51, and a computer geek from WAY back...I took my first (actually only) computer course in 1971.
We had a HP 2000 at my school. A deck-writer connected to the actual computer through a VERY slow phone line. There was no video and virtually no programs, if you wanted the computer to do something for you, you had to WRITE the program yourself. We were allowed no permanent memory on the system, to save a program, you punched it to Mylar tape for later use.
I am now a car/truck salesman who also maintains the dealership's 135 PCs, and the phone/voicemail system...in my 'spare' time.
I ran SETI on a many of the machines at work and on my LAN at home until I found cancer research.
I have never seen ET, but I have had cancer.
Since GM went BK in 2009, I am no longer selling vehicles.
I did roofing for a couple years, now I have become a mailman. |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I believe that the existance of other intelligent life forms in the Universe is possible.
It's impossible to tell what the implications are if we actually make contact.
The 'others' could be friendly...or NOT.
They could be advanced & helpful...or NOT!
They could bring cures for our ills, or new ills we can't even concieve yet.
I do believe that taking the chance is worth the possible gains. |
