Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I'm not sure that we would be able to receive the transmissions as we're looking for them. Given the movements and emanations of every celestial body in our galaxy, not to mention others, I'm not sure that it's possible to use RF effectively to communicate between solar systems. Earth rotates, it revolves around a star along with other planets, all which break up and interfere with a signal. The solar system is also moving within a galaxy, which also is moving and rotating. I don't know how sophisticated SETI's doppler models are, but I doubt that it would be enough to decode a message from anywhere of import. I don't believe we have the technology to do it, yet...
