Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Why do I run SETI@home?

Well, why not? To think that we're the only lifeform in the vast cosmos to have reached this, or higher, level of development and technical advancement, seems to me absurd. It's entirely conceivable that, for some reason or other, other lifeforms don't want to make contact, or that they don't, and never have, communicated via any medium that we can pick up during our searches, but why let those possible reasons stop us from trying?

It's also quite possible that my reasons for doing this are driven by as simple a motivation as many a person has for having faith in anything at all, to quote the X-files; "I want to believe.".

Whether it's because I simply want to believe, or it's because I feel that there has to be someone/something else out there, doesn't really matter. What matters is that every unit processed is another step towards a scientific answer to the question about whether we trully are alone or not.

Can we truly claim to be alone if we leave any stone unturned? Of course not.
