Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do believe there is life out there. The galaxy is too big for it not to. I look at all the different forms of life we have on earth (single-cell viruses up to complex organisms) and cannot believe that life formed nowhere else. I do not think that we will be able to leave our own galaxy for hundreds of years, but then 100 years ago there was no air travel, and 50 years ago we had not been to the moon.

I hope that whatever first contact we make is not with a race that is bent on conquest. Even in our own modern age, there are countries that still cannot stay within their own borders.

I run SETI@home with the hope that we can find out for certain that there is life besides our own in the galaxy, and so we can learn more about our own piece of the universe. I hope the project stays active and funded until there is no more to learn.
