Profile: Daniel

Personal background
Hello!
My name is Daniel.
I'm from Brazil and I was born in 1960.
My native language is Portuguese, but I can also speak a bit of Spanish and English.
I'm a retired teacher. Among my hobbies I include: Architecture, beekeeping, windsurfing, skywatching, reading, and the Internet.
I am a gay man and I hope homophobia will one day enclose just reminiscences of a nasty past.
I wish I had as many friends from the world as they introduced themselves to me, so, if you feel like sending me an e-mail I promise to write you some lines in reply.

I wish peace and love for everyone!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I've always believed that aliens could be true, not the enemy way many film makers believe, but ET's as part of a comprehensive and friendly universe. I even associate the mystical ideas of Life on Earth - somehow, having come from outer space - with some bible's illustrations (possibly) showing U.F.O.s' visitation.
I'm sure there's a lot of 'unkown' yet to be unveiled to us, human beings.
I've never seen U.F.O.s, but I have friends who do and I believe in their stories.
Due to Seti@home existence (and now BOINC) I'm glad I can contribute to its (their/our) cause, not only searching for extraterrestrial beings, looking for new ways to fight diseases, etc., but contributing to the development of a new world.
Concerning sending data to space I've read the following and found it to be a nice insight into SETI@HOME: "The Arecibo telescope transmits very powerful signals when it is used as a radar system to study planets, asteroids and the ionosphere. These radar signals are powerful enough to be detected 10,000 light years away by searches like SETI@home..."
(extracted from: http://seticlassic.ssl.berkeley.edu/faq.html#q4.1 )
Once I thought if U.F.O.'s were just fantasy of human kind, going to space on the other hand, would not be. This way we would become 'live intelligent aliens' whenever we stepped on the Moon, on Mars, etc (regarding we belong to Earth)... and being so, as an alien, I would be kind to all other aliens I would find. Of course, if I found a Klingon, I wouldn't be that kind ;-)
