Hi! I live in theUK in a village in Oxfordshire with Husband and our 3 young kids. Love crafting, walking and anything about space exploration though not all at the same time! I am a 'stay at home Mom' or as I am inelegantly called in this country 'a housewife'!!!
Our eldest son thinks this SETI thang is soooo cool!
I like to surf the web so thought it would be good to make use of my downtime when I'm off changing nappies (Yuk!), stopping fights :O( or making a cup of tea (slurp!)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
It is entirely possible that life exists afterall it's a BIG universe and getting bigger if I understand the news reports!
If we were as evolved as the characters on Star Trek (!) I would have no fear of encountering aliens. But as we cannot live peacefully on our own planet half the time I worry about the consequences; for our society and for the extraterrestrials. Bigotry and fear are a potent mix and apart from a few brave souls humans don't seem to embrace change especially on such a vast scale.
As for a beacon, again are we as a Planet in a fit state to invite visitors? I feel we need to stop acting as individuals and embrace the fact that we are all one species living on this wonderful and precious Earth. If we could look after our Planet and each other better then we would be in the right state of mind to greet other species.
Enough of the philosophising though! SETI is cool and I'm glad to help :O)
